Chapter Fifteen Fort Jackson

The sergeant pulls out a chair across from Jim and sits down. “Got problems over your way that you need the army for?” asks the sergeant.

“No, we’ve had two raids by Indians over the last couple of months. We think its renegades so the town council asked me to ride here to find out what is going on elsewhere in the territory.”

“Gee, I’m surprised, sir! It's been pretty quiet around the territory Indian wise. Once in awhile we get a young brave who gets a little whiskey in him and needs to cool off but no real problems.”

“That’s what I told the council I would find but you know how politicians are.”

“Yeah, being in the army for twelve years, I know how politicians are.”
